FRED FIELDING
When out collecting reference material for future paintings I look for scenes that have exciting patterns of light and shadow that form a composition. Often these are in wooded areas in the parks near my home in Buffalo.
I am currently working with soft pastel on white sanded paper with a watercolor under painting. The sanded coating of the paper keeps the watercolor from absorbing as quickly which allows for interesting patterns of blooms and runs that can not be attained with pastel alone and contribute to the feeling of the finished piece.
